How to measure for a roman blind:

All your roman blinds are made with a thermal bonded lining, and all come with satin chrome chains that meet the safety standard and a new headrail.

Measuring for a roman blind is quick and easy. Once you have found a fabric you love you will need to decide whether you want the blind to be in the recess or an exact fit (which is always 10cm at the top and 5cm at each side). Please refer to our measuring guide below for more details on how to measure your windows.

Recess

  • Measure your window in 3 places and use the smallest one.
  • We make any deductions needed so you don’t have too.
  • Please use a Metal tape measure as fabric ones can bow or stretch.
  • Take into consideration where the window handles are when taking your measurements as the will become obstacles for the blind.
  • If your window has tiles, please use that inside measurement as that will be the smallest width.

Exact

  • Measure exact area you want the blind to fit
  • Drop of blind is a personal choice just remember obstacles such as radiators or windowsills.
  • Please use a Metal tape measure as fabric ones can bow or stretch.

Curtains

How to measure for curtains

All our curtains can be made with a choice of our normal cotton lining, our blackout and thermal lining or our interlined curtains. You can also choose between a range of headings such as eyelets, double or triple pleat and pencil pleat.

Once you have chosen your fabric (please find a list of available fabrics on our home page), you can measure your window. Refer below to our simple measuring guide.

Measuring the correct width

It is important while measuring for the width that you are measuring the existing pole or track as this is the width we use the work out the fabric quantities.

Poles work best with our eyelet, double and triple pleat and pencil pleat curtains. When measuring a pole make sure to measure in between any finials or endcaps.

Tracks work best with our pencil pleat curtains. When measuring a track take care to measure the entire width of the track to get the best fit for your new curtains.

Tracks with overlap are just as easy as a normal track, measure the full width of the track (A) and then the width of the overlap (B). Add these together and that is the width you need.

Measuring the correct drop

Another choice to make when it comes to your perfect curtain is deciding where you want the curtain to sit on your window, this could be above the windowsill, below the windowsill or down to the floor. This will change where you are measuring too.

We recommend:

  • 1.5 cm above the windowsill
  • 15-20 cm below windowsill (2-3 cm above radiator)
  • 1.5cm above the floor

Pencil, double and triple pleat heading on a pole

When measuring drop curtains on a pole you need to measure from the bottom of the decorative ring, as this is where the top of the curtain will sit, down to where the desired finish point of the curtain is.

Eyelet heading on a pole

With eyelets you need measure from the top of the pole, as that is where the eyelet will sit, down to where the desired finish point of the curtain is.

Pencil pleat heading on a track

When using a certain track you need to measure from the top of the track down to where the desired finish point of the curtain is.

Wave curtains

If wave headed curtains are what your wanting , the easiest way to measure for a wave curtain is to treat getting the width in the same way you measure for a blind. We provide the track that comes with wave headed curtains as they are corded and also to ensure the best fit.

  • Measure the exact width of the area that you would like you curtains to start and finish. To minimise any light leaking through we recommend 15cm above the window recess and 15cm each side of the window recess.
  • The drop and overlap at the bottom of the curtain is a personal choice but please keep in mind obstacles such as radiators
  • Please use a metal tape measure as cloth ones can stretch and give an inaccurate measurement.
